Local artist Gino Lee to host “Open Mic Saturdays”

Having experienced first hand the difficulty of trying to find a place to perform, and ensuring a captive audience, Cape Town based singer songwriter Gino Lee has taken matters into his own hands. Wanting to give up-and-coming artists a platform to showcase their talents, Gino will host a series of “open mic” Saturdays at Three Feathers Diner in Woodstock, Cape Town.

Held in one of the busiest areas of the Mother City, Open Mic Saturdays is aimed at locals and tourist alike flowing through the space on weekends. Vibey and eclectic, Three Feathers Diner is the perfect location for live performances. They are situated in the city streets of Woodstock, across from the Old Biscuit Mill, and are known for their delicious gourmet burgers. In Gino’s own words, “It is very much a ‘man cave’ with pinball tables and muscle cars!”

That said, everyone is welcome.

Gino continues, “I decided to start and host the Open Mic because I realised that there are not that many great platforms and opportunities for upcoming artists. It is difficult for singer/songwriters and bands to get their foot in the door and develop their live repertoire. Three Feathers Diner on a Saturday afternoon is great because it is a trendy, busy and inviting spot. Every aspiring artist wants a space and a place where they can showcase what they’ve got and, this is the spot to do so!”

How it works?

The day is open to any musician or singer/songwriter who wants to perform, and all levels of musical ability.

It’s a first come first serve basis. Those artists who wish to perform will need to write their name down on a list at door. First person goes live at 12pm, so it is important to get their early. If you’re lucky and time permits, you might even catch a performance by the main man himself, Gino Lee.

Please note that this is not karaoke and musicians will need to arrive with songs prepared. The stage is however open to both covers and original music.

Artists will get to perform for 15 minutes (+3 songs).

Musicians will need to supply their own instruments and backing tracks (preferably on a USB or iPod/Phone. A microphone and aux cable will be made available.

Three Feathers Diner is a kid friendly venue so no profanity is allowed during the performances.
