The Mother City Queer Project’s annual Halloween event is something that needs to be seen to be believed. Their costume game is strong, their party throwing game is stronger. The Halloween Costume Party at The Dragon Room will boast three dance floors, eight bars, a killer line-up and costumes that would rival a Hollywood film set. Don’t be lame, because this event is a costume mandatory party. No, dressing as an older version of you doesn’t count. Oh, and just so you’re aware, there is an after party and you’re all invited! It’s going down at Crew Bar and entrance to that event is included in your ticket. Good thing you have the Sunday to recover. Happy haunting!

Everybody knows what a sugar skull is, but very few actually understand its cultural heritage. The Day of the Dead is a celebration of those who have passed on, and it originated in Mexico. This breathtakingly wonderful festival means a lot to those who consider it their heritage, so keep the true meaning in mind. HQ in Heritage Square, in the centre of Cape Town, is throwing their contribution to the festival on Saturday, 29 October 2016. You’ll be able to enjoy plenty of tequila and authentic Mexican tapas in the land of the living dead. Not only will the food be delicious, but there will also be face-painting, three dance floors and lots of drinks. The courtyard will be open, and dinner will be served on the ground floor. Just wait until you hear about the line-up! It includes Los Tacos, Brett Aitken and Chris de Vos.

COST: To take part in this event, you need to make a booking for dinner. There is no word on tickets just yet but we will keep you updated as best as we can! Keep an eye on their Facebook page for more info.

Only the brave may enter this night-time race! The annual Dirtopia Halloween Forest Night Run sees costumed fun-runners trek through the forests and vineyards at Muratie Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on Saturday, 29 October 2016. Runners can sign up for either a 10-km or 5-km trot; both routes traverse a single-track and give participants ample opportunity for ghost spotting at one of the Boland Winelands’ oldest wine farms (its history dates back to 1685). Prizes will be awarded to the top three ladies and men, and runners stand a chance to win spot prizes in the lucky draws. What’s more, all finishers will get a Halloween surprise and a soft drink. Registration will take place on the day at the venue from 5:30pm, and the race starts at 7pm for the 10-km and 7:15pm for the 5-km.

Gandalf’s, Cape Town’s most punk-friendly bar, is this year throwing a Halloween party to end them all. Their reputation alone should tell you that the drink specials will be sensational, and so they are! Beer will cost R12, shots will cost R7 and bubblegum tequila or caramel vodka will cost R5. We can’t remember the last time drinks were this cheap. It leaves you more money to spend on your costume! Rightly so, you will be stared at if you don’t dress-up. Why? Because that’s lame. The prizes, however, are certainly not lame. You could win free jugs (we assume filled with alcohol) or even tattoo vouchers.

COST: Entrance is R30p/p and you can pay at the door. Need more info? Click through to our event page and we will reveal all you need to know.
